Letters discuss Kamala Harris’ new economic plan featuring price controls

The Issue: Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposal for an economic plan in a bid to win the election.

Vice President Kamala Harris announced an economic program for her presidential campaign that combines handouts with a Soviet-style solution (“Kam’ie in $1.7T bid to buy WH,” Aug. 17).

The handouts include $6,000 for families of newborn children and wage boosts for union members.
The Soviet-style solution is price controls, a strategy that has historically failed in other nations and is unlikely to succeed here. And Americans are already wary of government-imposed pricing on everything from food to tires.

Like her boss President Biden, Harris has not demonstrated a deep understanding of economics. Neither of them seems concerned about the inefficacy of handouts and price controls.

It’s simple: Price controls produce shortages, shortages generate desperation, and desperation will lead to more government controls.

The Democratic circus arrives in Chicago this week, led by a cast of politicians and the star of the show: price-control queen Harris (“Dems will roll out A-team in Chicago,” Aug. 19).

The theme? “We’re not going back.” Well, “back” wasn’t so bad — gas at $2.20, inflation at 1.4%, a secure border, building the wall, no wars and no migrants running rampant. But forward, kamrades.

Harris’ first revelation of her economic plan for the future of this country was as incoherent and nonsensical as her fondness for yellow school buses.

For a candidate who claims to want to move the country forward, her proposed price controls and big-government giveaways seem more like a trip “Back to the Future.”

If she becomes president, she’ll have plenty of garbage to power her DeLorean as our country revisits the bread lines of the former Soviet Union and communist Cuba of the 1970s.

Pandering for votes isn’t exclusive to any one party. But the extent to which Harris, in this presidential campaign, is promising utopia is extreme.

There is no such thing as “greedflation.”

Those who play the gender, race and class-warfare cards to manipulate the American people now make false claims of corporate greed or price gouging as the economy falters under their watch.

They exploit their constituents’ envy of successful people, billionaires and corporate leaders — encouraging hatred of those who provide the goods and services that contribute to a good life.

Meanwhile, they obscure the fact that high taxes and excessive government spending, along with interventions like price controls, are the true causes of the miserable economy we’re experiencing under their leadership.

Well, the genie is out of the bottle. Harris’ economic plan would make any communist dictator very happy.
I can hardly wait to see what she plans to do about our southern border, which she helped destroy, putting our country in great danger. Or how she plans to address out-of-control crime and a world increasingly consumed by wars.

Well, she finally did it. Kamala Harris has revealed her true colors — there’s no doubt in my mind that she is a communist. Her intention is to turn this country into a total socialist state (if it isn’t already heading that way).

Her economic proposals make her intentions clear, with price and rent controls at the center of her push to turn American citizens into government dependents.

I guess she never took Economics 101 in college, because, as everyone should know, these policies lead to food shortages and long bread lines, as seen in Russia’s past.

So, Americans, you have a choice: Harris and communism or former President Donald Trump and prosperity.
