Letters: Schumer and other New York Democrats are turning their backs on Israel
The Issue: The refusal of various New York politicians to condemn President Biden’s abandonment of Israel.
It’s truly a rude awakening for New York’s Jews to find themselves abandoned by representatives whom they thought were pro-Israel, especially Sen. Chuck Schumer (“NYC Dems AWOL on Israel,” Editorial, May 11).
Another New York Dem who’s gone silent is Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, of whom I ask: How is she still in Congress?

It comes as no surprise that many of New York’s Democrats, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Jamaal Bowman, stand behind President Biden’s “screw you” move.
Likewise, Sen. Chuck Schumer is a spineless liar who claims he is Israel’s biggest supporter — yet is screwing it over to placate President Biden.

Schumer’s moral character can be summed up by his backstabbing of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It’s clear that New York Democrats are silent on Biden’s abandonment of Israel not out of any sort of righteous indignation over the genocide in Palestine, but because they want votes.
That being said, they’re wise to back away from supporting Israel, a genocidal, apartheid state that has reportedly killed 35,000 Palestinians — many of whom are women and children.
I’m glad to live in a state where our senators are smart enough to see the writing on the wall and abandon Israel’s campaign against the Palestinians. And I hope that the rest of the country wakes up and comes to the same realization: That Israel is not our friend.

The attempt to pull the rug out from under Israel at this crucial time is a disgraceful abandonment of our most loyal ally.

Schumer’s career has been characterized by self-aggrandizement but few actual accomplishments.
Instead, he has been an utter disappointment. He now outrageously supports President Biden’s decision to suspend the shipment of weapons to Israel amid its battle for survival with a mortal enemy: Hamas.

Does Sen. Schumer care about Biden’s refusal to send arms to Israel? His silence is deafening.

Congress passed funding to send war materiel to Israel and Ukraine, yet now Israel aid has been paused — a clear attempt to undermine Israel’s right to exist.
Biden will go down as the most damaging president America has had.

The Post referred to Israel as our “closest ally,” yet America’s relationship with Israel is fraught with danger.
The realpolitik of the moment should be focused on Russia and China. We can’t take our eye off the ball and be drawn into a Hamas-Israel sideshow which siphons off our military resources.
It is time to take off the blinders and prioritize our own country.

Turning his back on our ally in the Middle East, a feckless President Biden has totally surrendered to the mob for votes by delaying shipments of ammunition, leaving Israel to fight for itself. The ultimate act of betrayal.
The “D” in “Democratic Party” now stands for “Don’t look to us to help” — a party led in the Senate by a Judas named Schumer.

The fact that Joe Biden has now turned his back on Israel makes the world a more dangerous place. Israel has no choice as to the degree it must protect itself from destruction. The bottom line is: If Israel goes, so does the rest of the world.

In the end, when Israel desperately needed weapons, Schumer went AWOL and betrayed his roots and heritage. He is a coward and a traitor to the Jews.
