Letters to the Editor: Alvin Bragg holds firm on Trump conviction
The Problem: Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s Request to Delay Sentencing for President-elect Donald Trump until 2029.
The core of the case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg against President-elect Donald Trump is that Trump allegedly manipulated the 2016 presidential election by concealing 32 payments to a porn star (“Let ’em loose Bragg . . . Won’t let Trump go,” Nov. 20).
The reality is that earlier this year, Trump’s conviction on 34 felony charges by a jury had no impact on the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Trump’s decisive victory proves that the initial case lacks merit.

Delaying Trump’s sentencing until after his presidency is over is akin to subjecting Trump to four years of insecurity while he waits for the verdict. This is an abuse of power and prosecutorial misconduct driven by animosity towards Trump.
So, I must ask, should the individuals who overwhelmingly voted for Trump as the new president of the United States passively observe while the integrity of the office is compromised by the Democrats?

DA Bragg’s conduct merits no commendation. New Yorkers must wake up and demand a change. It’s time to hold Bragg accountable and remove him from his position.
He is fixated on the perceived threat posed by Trump, yet he is the architect of a justice system that recycles offenders and has allowed the city to deteriorate.
Instead of focusing on congestion pricing plans, the governor should prioritize addressing Bragg’s failings.

Let’s get straight to the point regarding Bragg: He is a greater disgrace than George Gascon in Los Angeles. How can Manhattan residents be so deceived?
Bragg releases criminals, fare-beaters, thieves, and all types of sociopaths. He is consumed with targeting Trump while portraying himself as a benefactor.

It was once said that delayed justice is denied justice. Not anymore. Today, justice is as patient as can be.

Alvin Bragg’s plan to postpone sentencing (on a fabricated case) would cast a shadow over Trump’s presidency and give his critics ammunition to tarnish his reputation.
It is perplexing that anti-Trump individuals fail to grasp that Americans saw through the charade and still handed Trump an unprecedented victory and mandate. All charges should be dropped.

Someone should remind Alvin Bragg to review legal precedents. Unreasonable delays in sentencing can lead to loss of jurisdiction for the court and require dismissal of the charges.
As someone who has practiced law for 50 years, I have experienced two cases being dismissed in this manner. The Manhattan case is a farce, and if it goes to appeal, it will likely end in dismissal.

The Nov. 24 Post quotes Bragg’s campaign spokesman, Ritchie Fife, stating that “Alvin Bragg is laser-focused on making Manhattan safer.”
When I turn to the next page, I see an article about “treating young gun offenders leniently,” highlighting how many minors in the city are repeatedly arrested, only to be released and commit more crimes. The irony is striking.
Can Fife clarify what he meant by being “laser-focused”?

To Alvin Bragg & Co.: The preoccupation with prosecuting now-President-elect Trump for what seems more like a misdemeanor than a felony is one of the reasons why many registered Democrats voted for Donald.
This resembles a witch hunt and tactics seen in less developed countries. Such approaches have no place in the United States of America, the land of the free.
