Letters to the Editor — April 27, 2023

The Issue: President Biden’s announcement that he’s launching a campaign for a second term.

President Biden says he wants to finish what he started. Finish what? Destroying the country totally? (“He’s already lost it!” April 26)

He already caused massive inflation, so why not finish us off? Our borders are a mess, gas prices are off the charts, there’s a war in Ukraine, etc.

Biden caused fuel prices to rise when he made us again dependent on foreign oil. He cut off our ability to use our own resources to survive.

If he had mediated or brought military power to Ukraine’s front lines sooner, the war might not have escalated and might already be over.

And that buffoon we call a president can’t even see the disaster he has inflicted on our country. He wants to finish the job. Spare me — or rather, spare us all.

If your dad or your uncle were talking and acting like Biden, you’d have a family meeting about taking away his car keys and keeping him away from the gas stove.

The fact that this man, along with the Democratic Party, is seeking his re-election to the highest office on the face of the earth only confirms one thing: The world is upside down, and this country is in deep, deep trouble.

Michael Campisi

In my 86 years on this earth, I have never been so disappointed in the quality of presidential candidates.

Trump, whom I voted for, can’t keep his mouth shut. His family must be totally embarrassed by his insults.

Biden is a total loser. His strings are being pulled by liberal aides.

I hope America will wake up and select some sensible person, like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Francis Quinn

I — and every person I have spoken with, whatever their party preference has been — will vote for whomever opposes Biden.

No issue is as critical for the survival of our country as removing this man from office.

Helaine L. Smith

Biden wants us to vote for him, so he can finish the job he started.

“The job he started” ruined the United States of America. Illegal immigrants live in $500-a-day hotel rooms while homeless vets live under a tarp. Criminals run the inner cities.

I figured Barack Obama would go down as our worst president, but Biden took that spot. I would vote for Donald Duck before voting for the “empty suit.”

Biden released a Hollywood-style, early-morning video announcing he’s running for re-election. Why on earth wouldn’t he do it in person, either in front of supporters or the press?

He and his advisers must be afraid to allow him to speak openly to the American public, and instead have to rely on an edited/controlled narrative.

He has totally lost touch with the American electorate. I assume he’ll do another campaign from his basement, unwilling to be confronted by the press. He’ll only speak with a teleprompter, so as to avoid his daily gaffes, or through surrogates. This is not what America needs in a president.

Harold Fishman

Manhattan

In 1968, when CBS anchor Walter Cronkite declared that the Vietnam War was unwinnable, President Lyndon B. Johnson knew that he had lost the support of middle America.

He subsequently announced that he would not run or accept his party’s nomination for a second term.

Many media commentators across the political spectrum have questioned President Biden’s announcement of a re-election bid.

He should heed the words of Kenny Rogers: “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away and know when to run.”

Larry Penner

Great Neck

Did Joey say he wants to “finish the job” or “finish us off”?
