The Issue: Poll showing 53% of New Yorkers don’t like where the state is headed and 40% are mulling leaving.

So over half of New Yorkers think the state is headed in the wrong direction (“New Yuck State,” Aug. 28).

This is what you voted for — Democratic mayors, a Democratic Assembly that allows nothing to get done and a Democratic governor who is a puppet to her donors.

Keep voting for anyone who has a “D” next to their name. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

It has become increasingly clear that the leadership in this city and state is failing.

It ignores its own crumbling tax base, encouraging New Yorkers to flee. It has made the already bad migrant crisis worse. And now there’s an appalling, city- and statewide spotted lanternfly infestation that borders on the biblical. This is leadership?

New Yorkers, who live and still pay taxes here, find themselves trapped and alone, like a rider on the subway, stalled between stations, quietly pleading for information that won’t come.

I was born and raised in New York City. Though I have been a Florida resident for over 30 years, I lived in Manhattan for 25 years. I love New York.

What I see is the decline of a great state that gave to our country some of its best and brightest citizens.

The people of New York City and state deserve what they are getting. The city had a chance to put Curtis Sliwa in as mayor, who knows the city better than anyone.

The state had a chance to elect a very respected man from Suffolk County as governor. You all voted for a political hack. You all deserve these two Democratic misfits.

I pray someone comes to save New York, as its middle-class and wealthy citizens run away to avoid taxes, crime, bad infrastructure and illegal immigrants flooding the city and state.

Both the mayor and the governor should have called this unfit president and demanded he close the border immediately. Both are afraid to do so.

I, and millions of other former New Yorkers, feel terrible about what has happened to our home state.

Gov. Hochul’s approval rating is way down.

Didn’t you people who voted for her realize she would be a mockery of leadership for our state?

I voted for Rep. Lee Zeldin. Remember next time you vote — don’t make the same mistake.

As Hochul’s approval rating has now plunged to a new low, the only surprise is that it took this long to happen.

Hochul has been a feckless, incompetent governor from the start. Crime is out of control, people continue to leave the state and her handling of the migrant crisis has been utterly ridiculous.

She continuously criticizes Adams, but offers no solutions to help the situation. Hochul is your typical leftist politician who says all of the politically correct things but has no idea how to pragmatically solve problems — and solving those problems is why she was elected.

The state of New York city is not an issue of Democrat vs. Republican. It’s a question of competence vs. incompetence.

I am no fan of former Rep. Liz Cheney, but she got it right when she said recently, “Our politicians our politicians are stupid.”

I would add that they are not able to think critically about the consequences of their policymaking which has turned this city into a nightmare.

Do you want more of the wealthy tax base to flee to Florida, Governor?

Well, with a 40% approval rate and falling, it looks like the liberal loons who voted for you are turning on you and rightfully so.

You are putting New York residents in danger. You are putting children in danger, who can’t defend themselves.

Eliminate sanctuary-city status immediately and acknowledge that “right to shelter” is only for New York’s homeless — not invaders.
