Letters to the Editor: Kamala Harris’ Unusual Fiscal Policies

The Concern: The inconsistent positions of the Democratic nominee on economic issues such as inflation.

Vice President Kamala Harris may try to distance herself from President Biden’s economic policies, which have had negative impacts on the country for the past four years.

However, the undeniable truth is that the Biden-Harris administration was responsible for creating those policies (“Kam’s New Deal,” Aug. 15).

Can we believe that Harris will suddenly adopt a fiscally responsible centrist approach once she becomes president?

Not likely.

She has fully endorsed all of the Biden policies.

Does Harris truly believe the positions she held in the past or the ones she is currently advocating for?

Remember Biden’s statement during the 2020 election: “I’m not a socialist, I beat the socialists.”

Yet, during his presidency, Biden leaned towards the left.

Is it believable that Harris has maintained a centrist economic stance throughout this time?

Also, keep in mind that Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are strong supporters of her.

Harris’ administration is expected to be filled with far-left progressives.

While she may claim she won’t ban fracking, it is likely that regulations will render the practice unviable.

A leopard doesn’t change its spots.

According to a Democratic aide, “With such a short timeline now, policy matters less than personality.”

However, both her policies and personality are highly questionable.

Harris is attributing today’s inflation to “price gouging” by corporations (“Kam’s $$ track record laughable,” Douglas Murray, Aug. 16).

She expects us to believe that her votes on the American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act did not contribute to this situation.

It’s difficult to take her candidacy seriously.

Douglas Murray’s article highlights the financial hardships that most Americans have faced during Biden’s presidency.

This is the issue that Harris needs to address.

As the saying goes: “It’s the economy, stupid.”

The Concern: Mayor Adams’ proposal of drone surveillance to combat the rise in crime in Central Park.

Every day, Mayor Adams presents new ideas.

Now, he is suggesting the use of drones to monitor Central Park (“Eye spy in sky over Cent. Pk.,” Aug. 14).

His previous idea of using robots in the subways failed. How will drones in Central Park ensure safety?

Adams should focus on addressing issues like the influx of migrants and redirect funds to support the NYPD: Re-fund the police department.

In the past, police patrols in Central Park and the subway system contributed to safety.

Our leaders often give the impression of taking steps to enhance safety.

Metal detectors do not prevent violent incidents in the subways.

Using drones will not deter criminal activities in Central Park.

Implementing drones is another way to avoid addressing the root cause of lawlessness in the city.

Drones may capture images of criminals, but the real challenge lies in charging, trying, and imprisoning them.

This approach could make a real difference.
