Letters to the Editor — March 25, 2023

The Issue: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pursuit of a felony charge against Donald Trump.

It seems the case against former President Donald Trump over his alleged payoff to Stormy Daniels is turning out to be a big bust (“ ‘Lock ’em up!’ no cell-ebration,” Douglas Murray, March 24).

Whether you like Trump or not, it seems like the Democrats are using the same technique popular in totalitarian countries like Russia, China and Cuba.

That is to attempt to stop anyone who opposes the ruling regime from gaining power any way they can.

I believe that the more these bullies harass Trump, the stronger his base will become. He may not be the most likable figure, but look at how nasty and unlikable President Biden is.

I can’t forgive Trump for entertaining those two low-life anti-Semites at a dinner last year, but I want America to be strong again, like it was when he left office.

I feel that Alvin Bragg has brought disgrace to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

With all the cases he downgraded to misdemeanors from felonies, he wants to try turn a misdemeanor charge into a felony and convict the former president. Maybe it’s time that New Yorkers wake up.

As a deeply concerned American, I would like to extend a hearty “thank you” to Alvin Bragg for shining a spotlight on government corruption.

His “show me the man, and I will show you the crime” approach to taking down the Democrats’ political enemies would certainly make Lavrentiy Beria proud!

I am positive that the families of all the crime victims in New York City, particularly the parents of those who have been raped or murdered by the monsters Alvin Bragg declined to prosecute or released without bail, feel the same way.

Taking down Trump on behalf of the people, instead of foolishly letting the people decide themselves by, say, voting in an election, is an important step in protecting our democracy.

Since Trump announced, erroneously, that he would be indicted on Tuesday, news media have been speculating breathlessly. Newsflash: Trump thrives on media attention.

As long as people talk about him and think about him, he has influence. When the media report on what he says and what he posts and speculate on what he may or may not say, or what he may or may not do, Trump gets attention that empowers his influence.

Media attention fuels a “Trumpster” fire that few can resist looking at.

Responsible reporters and pundits who want this alleged criminal to be held accountable through our system of justice must stop speculating about Trump’s every word and action. They must let the system work in the dispassionate, objective way it’s intended to.

If this case against Trump goes forward, Alvin Bragg is not going to brag about how he can win it, that’s for sure.

His attempt to convince a grand jury that this behavior is worthy of a felony charge is not holding water, and now the effort appears quite hopeless.

Bragg is more motivated to eradicate Trump and prevent him from running in 2024 than he is to save the city from violence and crime.

It would be in Gov. Hochul’s best interest to fire Bragg, just as Rep. Lee Zeldin intended to do. It would be the necessary move to get some optimism back into New York City.

There’s no business like show business, and Trump is quite a showman.

Nevertheless, his potentially impending arrest for the alleged hush money he was supposed to have given porn star Stormy Daniels is nothing but a red herring to divert the focus away from all the crime in Manhattan.

And there is no other name than “Donald Trump” that would fit the bill for Bragg. A warning to all New Yorkers: Don’t let the smoke get in your eyes.
