Letters to the Editor — March 27, 2023

The Issue: Piers Morgan’s interview with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Donald Trump and Ukraine.

If former President Donald Trump is the nominee, I will have no choice but to vote for him, as opposed to the worst president in US history, Joe Biden (“Ron hits Don,” Piers Morgan, March 22). But it will be begrudgingly.

There is no question that Trump’s policies were working until Biden came along and decided to scuttle everything that Trump did.

But now Trump is acting like the ultimate infant, mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, calling him names, still whining about the “lost” election, etc., etc.

It’s time for Trump to grow up. If it’s DeSantis’ time, he should back him completely and without reservation. And, for goodness sake, he must stop the immature name-calling and back-stabbing.

On Ukraine, Ron DeSantis told Piers Morgan what Morgan wanted to hear.

Last week, DeSantis told Tucker Carlson what Carlson wanted to hear — which was the exact opposite of what Morgan wanted to hear.

With lawyer-like semantic dance moves, DeSantis obfuscated the clear import of his remarks on Carlson’s show.

It’s clear that when it comes to foreign policy, DeSantis is not a principled man with solid instincts or convictions, and is more interested in which way the wind is blowing in his party than in anything else.

He is therefore unworthy of becoming the president of America — and the leader of the free world.

In his interview with Piers Morgan, DeSantis took a veiled shot at Trump, saying that he would focus on “real victories” and not “fighting people on social media,” feeding into the narrative that Trump represents too much “drama.”

And there is a certain amount of truth to this accusation. There is a lot of outside noise surrounding Trump.

But the real question is, is it really Trump creating the drama, or is he simply reacting to it?

We all know the endless barrage of false accusations and fake stories that Trump has had to endure the last eight years, which he has ferociously pushed back on.

I, for one, hope that DeSantis sees this as a learning experience. Because if he ever does become the GOP nominee and eventual president, he’s going to have a media bullseye on his back, just like every other Republican president, and he’s going to have to choose the lesser-of-the-two-evils approach of how to deal with it.

I wish Trump would not pick on DeSantis. Instead he should pick him as his running mate. Together they would win in a landslide.

The Issue: The Post editorial on last week’s report from the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change.

The recent United Nations report on climate change is just another in a long line of hysterical “the sky is falling” commentary from the usual alarmists (“Climate Hysteria Hazards,” Editorial, March 21).

From Paul Erlich’s predictions of smog disasters in the early ’70s to Al Gore spouting that the polar ice caps would be gone by 2013, these wild ravings have been spectacularly wrong.

The climate has been changing on Earth since Day One and will continue to change. Enough of these Chicken Littles already.

Kudos for the editorial “Climate Hysteria Hazards.”

Other than crippling inflation, what has President Pinocchi-Joe Biden’s climate policy gotten for us — a hatful of rain?
