The Issue: Concerns over Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s ability to serve due to her age and recent illness.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein is exactly what our Founding Fathers did not want — career, professional politicians (“A Fein mess,” May 19).
They anticipated people would not vote for incompetent members of Congress, but the system is now rigged to protect incumbents and discourage challenge to the status quo.
We also suffer from a lack of voter participation and ignorant voters.
Without term limits on members of Congress these kind of situations will continue.
And, despite Feinstein’s condition, President Biden’s handlers are eagerly pushing him to run again.
The way members of Congress become fabulously wealthy and treat taxpayers with such distain is antithetical to a representative republic.

Have you ever had shingles? I have! It is no joke to have shingles. It’s related to chicken pox, only it is worse, especially in adults.
This is no time for a political joke. Sen. Feinstein not only had shingles, she had terrible side effects. I thank God that I escaped those, but I did feel damn terrible for weeks.
Perhaps Rep. Nancy Pelosi was helping Feinstein’s recovery by taking her friend and colleague out to see the world again.
This is not politics for me. It is insulting. Give the woman her vanity, please.

Feinstein is the poster child for term limits if there ever was one, no?
She’s one of many who have rode the political train way too long.
Why is our government not passing rules for term limits? Because the money and hours and perks are way too lucrative, folks.
Sen. Mitch McConnell on the Republican side has worn out his credibility and time, too.
You, too, President Biden. Your 50-plus years of living on the public dole haven’t gone unnoticed. And useless Rep. Jerry Nadler is creeping up on 46 years in politics. The insanity of it all.

Let Feinstein leave the Senate with dignity and preserve her legacy. Stop the elder abuse.
There comes a time when you have to pass the baton. Gov. Gavin Newsom will appoint another liberal senator, so no loss. Where is her family to protect her from politics?
On second thought: Get perfectly well, Dianne, as the liar Rep. Adam Schiff and the super-liberal Rep. Katie Porter are in the wings.

The Issue: The MTA’s plan to introduce new turnstiles to stop farebeating, which cost $690 million, in 2022.
The Post’s editorial, “Soaring Farebeating Feeds All Crime” (May 18), was right on target.
When I first started commuting, an MTA token was 50 cents and you rarely saw farebeaters.
Today, unfortunately, farebeaters on buses are costing the city $315 million and subway turnstile-jumpers are costing $285 million.
Hopefully cops will continue issuing more summonses to farebeaters, and we’ll see an end to Gotham’s crime rot!

Why do our idiot politicians want to reinvent the wheel?
I know turnstile-jumping is endemic in our subway stations, but why change turnstiles to some very expensive 21st-century alternatives, when we’ve had for decades those huge barred turnstiles in unmanned stations?
If these venerable un-jumpable turnstiles had replaced our present easy-to-jump turnstiles, the MTA would have saved billions by now.
