Letters: Why the ‘brothers’ won’t be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris

The Issue: Adam Coleman’s column on the former president lecturing black men about voting for women.

In an election season where civility, decency, and fairness have been tossed out the window, I find it particularly offensive that former President Barack Obama is lecturing black men on who to vote for and why. Adam Coleman expresses his thoughts in the article “Thanks Barack, I can think for myself,” published on October 12.

To make matters worse, Obama warned the group that they should consider themselves fortunate that former First Lady Michelle Obama was not present.

This is a prime example of the negative impact the Obamas and their Democratic colleagues have on the black community. They promote party rhetoric for votes but fail to take tangible actions to improve the community. This is disrespectful to Americans of all ethnic backgrounds.

Former President Donald Trump, a successful businessman, created job opportunities for thousands of individuals from diverse backgrounds through his property development ventures. It makes me wonder how many jobs Obama generated beyond those funded by the government.

The Democratic National Committee enlisted Obama to rally support for Vice President Kamala Harris in Pittsburgh, assuming that black people still view him as their savior as they did in 2009.

However, the reality is quite different. Many individuals see through the Obamas’ facade. Instead of returning to Chicago after leaving the White House, Obama relocated to Martha’s Vineyard.

Pressuring black individuals to vote for Harris solely based on her ethnicity is likely to backfire in November.

I believe Obama’s call for black men to support Vice President Kamala Harris will have unintended consequences.
Imagine being a black man considering voting for Trump. Constant pressure to change your stance may be weighing on your mind. Obama acknowledged that many black men may prefer to vote for Trump, inadvertently reassuring them that they are not alone.

In a way, Obama’s statement may remind black men supporting Trump that they are part of a larger group with similar beliefs.

Despite admitting she wouldn’t change policies from the current administration, Harris advocates for turning the page. This inconsistency needs to be addressed.

The Biden-Harris administration has been a failure, and another term for Harris would be detrimental to the country.
