Migrant criminal highlights flaws in Democratic system

Brian Castillos is the poster child for everything that’s wrong with the Democrats’ handling of the border and crime.

For more than three years, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden put out a sign that said “open for the taking” to every criminal in the Western Hemisphere.

Since the border isn’t secure, and anyone can dubiously ask for “asylum” and be waved right in, Venezuelan gangs have answered the call, setting up shop nationwide. As did Castillos, 22.

According to police, Castillos got his start in New York City by shoplifting at a Macy’s in Brooklyn. He allegedly stepped up to muggings, or theft, because he later used a stolen credit card. Then he assaulted a cop.

And finally (of the crimes we know about), he stole a woman’s purse and necklace in Hell’s Kitchen.

Enter the double-barrel of the progressive “no bail” mentality and the madness of “sanctuary city” status. Many of Castillos’ crimes weren’t bail eligible, so he was just let go.

But in the latest case, handled by liberal Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s office, the judge specifically asked if they wanted Castillos held, since he had another open felony case. No, they said. Too busy prosecuting ex-presidents, apparently.

Castillos should be deported. But New York, like many Democratic-run cities, has a policy not to alert ICE when an illegal immigrant gets arrested for a crime.

In short, the Democrats have built a system that does not care about the average American.

Taxpayers pay for the migrant shelters. We pay higher prices because of rampant shoplifting. And if you’re robbed, well, the person who did it won’t go to jail, have to pay bail, and will get to stay in the country.

If Harris wins in November, she’ll deliver this philosophy nationwide. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
