Migrant flights bound for Texas with Air Biden should be stopped
Gov. Greg Abbott has successfully managed the state’s border with Mexico, despite efforts from Team Biden to interfere. In response, the Department of Homeland Security is flying illegal migrants in from California, where Governor Gavin Newsom has not implemented similar measures.
Is this retaliation for Abbott demonstrating that the flow of migrants can be stopped?
Despite President Biden’s crackdown claims, the number of migrants entering is still above the level that would trigger a halt for some asylum seekers.
The Post’s Jennie Taer reported exclusively last week that migrant holding centers near San Diego are overflowing.
To address this, DHS chief Alejandro Mayorkas has initiated at least four flights a week, each carrying 150 migrants from California to Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, costing $80,000 per flight.
Despite multiple lawsuits from DHS attempting to block his border-security innovations, Abbott has prevailed. He ordered the Texas National Guard to secure Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, reducing border crossings from 2,000 to 3,000 a day to around five.
These flights from California to Texas seem like retribution for Abbott’s success in controlling the border.
Biden’s “crackdown” orders have exemptions that benefit migrants from over 100 countries. Border Patrol agents have reported releasing pregnant or injured migrants with future court dates.
It appears that Biden and Mayorkas prefer to continue allowing the influx of migrants and are willing to use federal power to punish those who oppose them.
