New York Times calls on readers to label Trump as a ‘fascist’ under the disguise of journalism
In a recent “Campaign Memo,” The New York Times claimed that “Democrats Lose Fear of Calling Trump a Fascist,” as if that fear hadn’t already dissipated back in 2015.
The article discusses how top Democrats, such as Kamala Harris and Gen. Mark Milley, are now more comfortable labeling Trump as fascist. However, this isn’t a new revelation, as similar sentiments have been expressed since as far back as 2015.
Barack Obama and prominent writers like Adam Gopnik and Robert Kagan had already suggested Trump’s fascist tendencies years ago. Even The New Republic had a cover portraying Trump as Hitler. President Biden himself warned of “semi-fascism” in a previous speech.
Despite the history of such accusations, the Times’ article was more of a call to action for more Democrats to openly criticize Trump in this way.
Overall, labeling Republicans as fascists has been a common tactic for Democrats, but it has not proven effective in achieving political goals.
Regardless, The New York Times often blurs the line between advocacy and journalism in its reporting.
