NY Democrats deflecting responsibility for shortcomings
Former President Donald Trump is making gains in swing-state polls, and one group quietly pleased by this is New York’s elected officials.
The city’s Democrats often use Trump as a distraction to deflect attention away from their own failures.
Last week, Trump announced a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 27, prompting State Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal to raise concerns about public safety.
Hoylman-Sigal compared allowing Trump to hold an event at MSG to a Nazi rally in 1939 and demanded the rally be canceled due to safety risks.
Despite this demand being ignored by MSG, it highlights the public safety concerns in the district, which have nothing to do with Trump.
For example, the crime rate in Manhattan’s 14th precinct, which includes MSG, has been on the rise, with an increase in murders and felony assaults compared to previous years.
These incidents, including stabbings and assaults near MSG, illustrate the safety challenges in the area that are not linked to Trump’s rally.
Rather than focusing on Trump, elected officials like Hoylman-Sigal should address the root causes of crime and violence in the city to ensure the safety of New Yorkers.
It’s time to move beyond using Trump as a distraction and instead work towards making Midtown safe again.
While Trump may not win in New York City in 2024, his growing support indicates voters are tired of Democrats using him as a scapegoat for their failures.
