NY Mayor Eric Adams’ misplaced migrant blame

The Issue: Mayor Adams’ claim that red states are using the migrant crisis “to hurt black-run cities.”

Mayor Adams’ failing and flailing is sad, even pathetic to see — and totally dishonest (“Adams’ Texas color war,” May 2).

Adams knows full well that Democratic mayors, pro-crime DAs and sanctuary policies were wrecking America’s cities long before Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ever chartered his first Jitney.

He knows the tsunami of illegal immigrants was unleashed by President Biden, but he doesn’t dare admit it. That would be disloyal to the party, and he’ll need party support to get what he really wants — higher office.

To him, New York City is and always was a mere stepping stone to the governor’s mansion, the Senate, even the White House.

Mayor Adams, you have to be better than that.

The great United States has become so partisan that we throw the word “racist” up to divert from the root cause of a major problem that is heavily taxing our country — the open border.

The pain of this burden is now being felt by all in both Republican- and Democrat-run cities and states.

The solution is sound border policy that vets and controls the flow of migrants. This will unburden cities and states alike. As Maya Angelou said, “We are more alike than we are different.” Let’s start acting that way.

When Biden flagrantly opened the borders, Adams refused to condemn Biden’s blunder and instead touted New York City as willing and able to adopt all who arrive.

When Abbott took Adams up on his word and started busing illegal migrants by the thousands to New York, Adams didn’t stop them at the Port Authority and turn them back. Rather, he scrambled to house, feed and educate them all, leaving the taxpaying legal residents of New York to foot the bill.

Now Adams has hit an all-time low, playing the race card to blame Abbott for “using the crisis to hurt black-run cities.”

Does this man have no shame? If Adams really wants to get New York out of this jam, he needs to admit his utter mishandling of the crisis, stop and turn back all migrant loaded buses upon arrival, and start busing the illegal migrants that have overrun our city back to the border for reentry into Mexico.

Adams and others should have been careful what they wished for when they fell for the trap set by the Biden administration to accept the illegal immigrants.

All these mayors wanted to earn political points against former President Donald Trump by promoting sanctuary cities.

It seems they were bamboozled by the White House. So now Adams is trying to make it a racial issue (as is usual for Democrats), which is absurd.

Adams could easily put them back on the bus and send back to the border crossings with the message that his city is not accepting any more illegal immigrants. As a taxpayer, this is what I expect all mayors to do.

These Democratic mayors declared their cities “sanctuary cities” and encouraged thousands of foreigners to enter our country illegally.

Adams and other Democratic mayors should have stopped all of this years ago by going to the White House and insisting Biden do his job, close the border and return illegal immigrants to their countries of origin — instead of shipping illegals (many unvaccinated) around our country in the dead of night.

But no. Adams chose to continue following the Democratic playbook and ignored his constituents’ concerns. And now, still following that playbook, he whines that Democrat-run cities are being targeted because they are run by black mayors.

It’s not your color, Mayor Adams. It’s your constant incompetence.

Once again, politics raises its ugly head. It’s expedient to emphasize racism. It’s far more effective politically.

Unfortunately, many people will buy this bunk hook, line and sinker.
