It’s clear why Mayor Adams keeps seeking favor with President Trump: he’s hoping for a pardon (“Adams makes another last-minute trip to DC to attend prayer breakfast where Trump will deliver remarks,” Feb. 5).

Recently, he traveled to Washington to join the prayer breakfast with the president — a curious choice, given he’s not a member of Congress but the mayor of New York.

Clearly, Eric Adams struggles to manage New York City effectively, and voters should remember this when casting their ballots in November.

MTA Turmoil

The MTA’s ongoing failures in subway safety consistently leave New Yorkers feeling anxious (“New video shows masked hooligans taking NYC subway train for reckless joyride,” Jan. 31).

While the agency claims crime rates are dropping, riders have yet to notice any real improvements in their security.

Compounding these issues are reports of thieves daringly hijacking trains for reckless joyrides, instilling even more fear in already anxious commuters. The thought of criminals commandeering a train is a nightmare no New Yorker wants to face.

Climate Concerns

I am responding to the editorial “Facing ‘Climate’ Reality” (Feb. 2).

The Democratic party is far from united against fossil fuels, and many Republicans do not deny climate change. The devastating impacts of climate change are evident: toddlers succumbing to extreme heat in Phoenix, food shortages, and devastating winds. Those who haven’t yet felt the effects soon will.

Moreover, just like some Republicans, many Democrats continue to cater to fossil-fuel interests, despite the lack of a rational economic rationale for “drill, baby, drill,” which mainly benefits a handful of billionaires.

The flood is upon us, and our home is drifting downriver. We share the same air and water; it’s time to stop creating divisions and recognize that we’re all in this together.

Noem in Action

How exactly does Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s involvement in the recent federal immigration operations in NYC allegedly “bog down raids,” as some critics suggest? (“Kristi makes the raid,” Jan. 29).

Do women serving in the military “bog down” their male counterparts? Women have fought long and hard for roles in the military and frequently excel beyond many men in skills and accomplishments. Yet, some people seem stuck in outdated mindsets, viewing women as only suited for domestic roles.

Trump’s Threats

Trump’s statement that Iran would face obliteration if he were killed should give everyone pause (“Trump claims he ordered ‘obliteration’ of Iran if he’s assassinated in chilling warning: ‘I’ve left instructions,’ ” Feb. 4).

I hope he understands that some factions within the US government could find both sides of that equation appealing.

His words might have inadvertently made him a target, creating potential threats from within. I wish this were not the case, but the current political climate offers little reassurance. Many dangerous figures lurk in the shadows beyond Iran. I hope I’m wrong.
