One Action Rachel Maddow Could Take to Distinguish Herself from the Racism Allegations Against MSNBC Leadership

Left-leaning MSNBC icon Rachel Maddow expressed her frustration on-air following the cancellation of her colleague Joy Reid’s “The ReidOut,” along with other programs hosted by anchors of color, citing alleged racial motivations behind the decision.

“Both of our non-white hosts in primetime are losing their shows, along with Katie Phang on the weekend,” Maddow lamented. “That feels indefensible, and I cannot justify it.”

Indeed, good journalism involves ensuring diversity in representation and checking all the DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) boxes.

This does not equate to producing actual breaking news or offering insightful commentary (Reid’s show managed to do neither).

Moreover, there’s a troubling undertone of inherent racism in Maddow’s comments—suggesting that these “non-white” hosts should all fall under the same category in their professional standing.

If you feel so strongly about this “indefensible” action, Rachel, here’s an ethical suggestion: Resign.

Show that you genuinely mean what you advocate for, that you are truly committed to supporting the cause of marginalized voices through equity measures.

Consider stepping away and launching a new network focused on only “non-white” hosts. Start a Substack dedicated to amplifying DEI initiatives that resonate with you.

Alternatively, consider retiring to a beach to enjoy the immense fortune you’ve amassed from sensational media reporting to an audience of Gen-X library science graduates residing in gentrified urban areas and affluent suburbs. (You’ve certainly made your mentor, Keith “Forehead Vein Thrombosis” Olbermann, proud!)

However, it’s likely Maddow won’t walk away—after all, the financial rewards are far too attractive.

Even following a reported $5 million pay cut, she continues to earn an impressive $25 million annually from the beleaguered network that, regrettably, made her a staple in American media.

Yet, limiting herself to mere complaints could erode whatever moral high ground she has left.

Perhaps she should even suggest the network also dismiss white male hosts Chris Hayes and Larry O’Donnell? After all, their ratings aren’t impressive either.
