Opinions on Israel war are conflicting, 1199 SEIU dominates NY and more commentary

Congress watch: Two-Faced on Israel War

Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pa.) was recently caught sending conflicting messages regarding the Gaza war to constituents, as reported by Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross. Two constituents, a mother-daughter pair, received two letters in response from Rep. Wild, one expressing support for Israel’s right to defend itself and the other calling for international pressure on Israel and an immediate ceasefire. These letters, both signed by Rep. Wild on May 31, conveyed different perspectives on the conflict.

Eye on NY: 1199 SEIU Rules Albany Roost

George Gresham, the president of 1199SEIU, New York’s largest health-care union, has once again topped the ‘Labor Power 100’ list from City & State magazine, as highlighted by Empire Center writer Bill Hammond. Recent lobbying victories by the union include securing a bailout for its benefit fund by enrolling unionized home health workers in a taxpayer-funded health insurance plan. 1199SEIU also successfully rolled back minimum spending requirements and advocated for increased state funding for Medicaid through alliances with other healthcare entities.

Elex beat: Dems’ Abortion Problem

Democrats are hoping to use the abortion issue to mobilize voters in the upcoming elections, as pointed out by The Wall Street Journal’s Jason L. Riley. However, working-class voters are more concerned about economic issues like fuel and housing costs than reproductive rights, posing a challenge for Democrats in winning their support.

From the right: Zuckerberg’s Non-Apology

Mark Zuckerberg recently criticized the Biden administration for pressuring Meta (Facebook) to censor content about COVID-19, as sarcastically noted by Spiked’s Tom Slater. Zuckerberg’s letter to Rep. Jim Jordan failed to acknowledge Facebook’s past involvement in censorship, including crackdowns on COVID misinformation and the suppression of the Hunter Biden revelations, indicating a lack of sincere change in approach.

Culture critic: The Shameless Kennedy Clan

Commenting on the Kennedy family’s denouncement of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s character for endorsing a disliked candidate, The Hill’s Derek Hunter criticizes the clan for their selective outrage. While past generations of Kennedys were never abandoned by the family despite misconduct, the current generation faces scrutiny over endorsements and party affiliations, showcasing a shift in priorities within the family.
