Parents’ Selfishness Leading to the Decline of America’s Children

The battle against the future prosperity of our children is not limited to the classrooms or the actions of activists and politicians. It is a result of parents who have failed in their roles and a society that prioritizes the happiness of adults over the needs of children.

The decline of American children started with the selfishness of parents who did not fulfill their responsibilities as moms and dads.

This neglect of parental duties is further enabled by those who prioritize adult happiness over child well-being.

In the United States, the rate of children living in single-parent households is the highest in the world, with 23% of American children under 18 living with only one parent and no other adults.

I experienced this firsthand growing up, as my father was largely absent from my life, making rare visits and infrequent phone calls.

When he did visit, it was never out of love for his children but for his own convenience.

Now, as a father myself, I understand what parental love truly means, and I can confidently say that my father did not prioritize me over himself, if he even loved me at all.

Just like in any war, there are those who profit from the suffering of others, disregarding the well-being of the victims.

Research shows that children from two-parent households are more likely to succeed in education, avoid criminal activities, and have better career prospects.

Yet, there are critics who dismiss the importance of traditional two-parent families, deeming them outdated and discriminatory.

Encouraging nuclear families is seen as antiquated, patriarchal, and even associated with “white supremacy” by some.

Our Lost Sense of Shame

Advocates for single-parent households argue that we should support and even promote them, claiming fathers are not necessary apart from providing financial support.

As a child, I didn’t yearn for money from my father; I just wanted his presence and guidance as a father.

I craved his wisdom, protection, and reassurance that I could achieve greater things than he did.

The cultural shift towards prioritizing adult desires over children’s needs has created a damaging environment where adults act irresponsibly while children are expected to behave maturely.

In the past, neglectful parents were shamed, but now we excuse failed relationships as a norm.

Our children will always face challenges, but they are not equipped to face the world alone. Protecting families is essential for safeguarding our children.
