Parole for Cop Killers: Letters

The Concern: The wave of violent offenders released by the Parole Board appointed by former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

How can we trust New York politicians to safeguard the public when they seem lenient towards criminals (“Freedom for Cop Killers,” April 7)?

In just eight years, forty-four cop killers have been granted parole, all due to the actions of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Parole Board.

Furthermore, a man who raped and murdered two women has been released, leaving their children without mothers.

Instead of addressing the issues at Rikers Island, there are plans for new jails in every borough, which won’t enhance public safety. If New Yorkers continue to elect pro-crime progressives, we will see a rise in crime rates.

The mayoral election resembles a gathering of misfits. Why are voters considering Cuomo again despite his track record? His Parole Board has freed 44 cop killers, including the murderer of Officer Edward Byrne.

Though Cuomo claims to support law enforcement, his actions tell a different story. With no strong candidates visible, NYC voters are faced with a difficult choice this November.

In the past, a person who murdered a police officer would have faced a lifetime behind bars. Nowadays, liberal Parole Boards allow cop killers to be released. It doesn’t matter if they become priests—life sentences are meant to be served. These criminals should never walk free.

Neglecting to do so would be the peak of ingratitude since uniformed members sacrifice everything to protect us. Supporting law enforcement should be the top priority.

The prospect of parole for David McClary, who murdered Officer Edward Byrne, is terrifying. This is a man who was convicted of murder, and now he could be back on the streets. Cop killers should never receive parole.

The Concern: Former President Barack Obama’s diminishing popularity.

No wonder former President Barack Obama’s favorability is waning: The Democrats enabled the biggest political deception in history (“Dems say no thanks to Bam’s meddling,” Miranda Devine, April 7).

Though former President Joe Biden was not fit for the role, they doubled down with former Vice President Kamala Harris, banking on the assumption that the American public wouldn’t notice. Apparently, Democrats believe that figurehead presidents and unelected bureaucrats are sufficient.
