Pete Hegseth Stands Firm — And America Will Benefit From It
The nominee for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, possesses a little-known secret weapon.
Those anticipating his downfall due to the ongoing smear campaign fail to recognize the spirit that drives Pete Hegseth, which is deeply rooted in his military service in New York City.
This spirit, his unique advantage, stems from the camaraderie of the “Fighting Irish” unit he proudly served.
And it’s now coming to the forefront.
Recent reports suggest that Hegseth’s confirmation odds have dipped significantly, as new allegations raise concerns even among some Republican senators.
He has already faced an unfounded rape accusation.
Moreover, a private email from years ago, written by his mother, was leaked — an email she promptly disavowed.
This comes alongside accusations of alcoholism and financial mismanagement from so-called “whistleblowers” (i.e., disgruntled former employees).
One might assume that a nominee under such duress would retreat, as former Rep. Matt Gaetz did.
Instead, Hegseth publicly declared, “Our warriors never back down, and neither will I,” in a recent social media post.
I had the privilege of serving alongside Pete in the esteemed New York National Guard infantry unit, known as “The Fighting 69th.”
Our motto, inspired by the essence of our regimental mascot, the Irish wolfhound, captures our spirit:
Translated from Gaelic, it states, “Gentle When Stroked, Fierce When Provoked.”
That aptly describes the ethos we uphold.
Though Pete is of Norwegian descent, he fully embraces the martial legacy of the Fighting Irish from his time with the 69th.
This heritage aligns with the tenacity exhibited by Donald Trump, who famously shouted, “Fight, fight, fight!” upon recovering from a gunshot wound, showing his roots with a mother who was a native Gaelic speaker.
Pete embodies this spirit, one that is crucial for revitalizing America’s military.
His resolute attitude is an ideal fit for the role he is expected to assume: leading the United States armed forces, the backbone of our nation’s defense in times of conflict.
Let’s be clear.
Neither Pete nor President-elect Trump are inclined to instigate conflicts with anyone, whether foreign or domestic.
The ultimate aim is peace.
However, there are fierce adversaries worldwide, from tyrants running hostile nations to leftist factions in the U.S. now struggling following their electoral losses, all seeking to undermine Trump’s mandate to “Make America Great Again.”
As General George S. Patton famously said, “Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser.”
Hegseth is committed to ensuring that the military is prepared to face the escalating threats from China, Iran, and beyond.
By prioritizing readiness over political correctness and identity politics, we can restore fear in America’s armed forces.
Having a robust military presence will empower Trump to negotiate deals that prevent wars.
Pete will advocate for active-duty soldiers and veterans, drawing from his own experience in service.
It’s frustrating to witness the treatment of veterans who have given so much.
Pete’s determined spirit will also drive him to eradicate the pervasive corruption, complacency, and pessimism within the Defense Department.
He is ready to take on the establishment, lobbyists, and opportunists.
And he possesses the strength to do so effectively.
In light of the fierce criticism directed at him, it’s crucial for patriotic Americans to embrace his fighting spirit and support him.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Pete both personally and professionally for nearly 23 years, dating back to his days as a college cadet, up to recent efforts where he supported my initiatives to rescue our allies in Afghanistan.
I can attest: Pete is genuinely a great person. Kind, enthusiastic, and compassionate.
However, the barrage of attacks from establishment adversaries has awakened the wolfhound within him.
Rest assured: As the left intensifies its efforts to dismantle him, Pete Hegseth will stand firm.
He will fight with the dedication of an American soldier.
And if the patriotic spirit of Americans also rises, he will prevail.
And we, the people, will triumph as well.
