Opting for the High Road

My only solo adventure? Nepal. Kathmandu, nestled in the Himalayas, is no easy journey. The international plane change goes through India.
The local flight was a small propeller plane, with my seatmate carrying a wooden crate of live chickens. Lunch was a can of tuna from NYC.
Whether there was a co-pilot, I couldn’t tell, as our pilot walked the length of the cabin barefoot.
Cleanliness was not a priority in Kathmandu, so handwashing before dining was essential.
Geoffrey now suggests a trip to neighboring Bhutan, bringing the Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to my apartment to persuade me.
Bhutan? That’s practically next door to Nepal, and I have no interest. The PM is a Harvard-educated Democrat!
So, for anyone inviting me for Labor Day, I’ll only make it as far as Quogue.
