Prepare for another 9/11 as terror threats increase with open borders

The warning lights of pre-9/11 are once again flashing, primarily due to President Biden’s lack of control over the southern border.

This is highlighted in a new Foreign Affairs essay based on testimonies and comments from top national security experts.

Will America be caught unprepared?

One concerning sign: Recent reports from The Post revealed that a sting operation last week apprehended six Russian nationals with suspected ISIS ties in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New York. At least one of them had been released by federal authorities at the southern border with a court date scheduled for next year.

“Remember the Boston marathon” bombing, a source told The Post. “I’m afraid something like that might happen again — or worse.”

In the essay, Harvard professor Graham Allison and former CIA Deputy Director Mike Morell reference FBI Director Chris Wray’s increasingly alarming assessments of the country’s “threat environment.”

In December, two months following Hamas’ massacre on October 7th in Israel, Wray testified that the terror threat had risen to “a whole ‘nother level” due to the lack of vetting as thousands crossed the border daily.

By April, his concerns escalated further after an ISIS-K attack at a Moscow concert hall left 145 dead and hundreds injured.

Outgoing National Counterterrorism Center Director Christine Abizaid also expressed concerns, noting the “elevated global threat environment.”

Just last week, Attorney General Merrick Garland echoed these sentiments, warning of a significant surge in threats.

US Central Command’s General Erik Kurilla has highlighted the terrorist capabilities of groups like al Qaeda, ISIS, and its affiliate in Afghanistan, ISIS-K.

Wray also mentioned ongoing plots by Tehran against top US officials in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.

Despite these threats, the southern border remains vulnerable.

The Center for Immigration Studies’ Todd Bensman has identified thousands of migrants from “countries of national security concern” like Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and even Iran.

As noted by Allison and Morell, last year “hundreds of individuals on the United States’ terrorist watch list attempted to enter the country via the southern border.” The risk of some slipping through and carrying out a large-scale attack is concerning.

While the terrorist threat alone justifies border security measures, President Biden remains resistant to securing the border.

Although US counterterror agents work diligently, as evidenced by recent arrests, terrorists only need to succeed once, as seen in 9/11.

Minimizing the risk involves overseas actions to weaken terrorist groups’ capabilities. However, securing the border is a critical step this president refuses to take.

To prevent another 9/11, a change in leadership is imperative.
