“No man,” said Abraham Lincoln, “has a good enough memory to be a successful liar.” Unfortunately, the current occupant of the White House, Joe Biden, has not embraced this wisdom. Biden is an incredibly dishonest individual, both in the extent of his lies and his ability to deceive. While one might be inclined to attribute his constant false statements to memory issues associated with his age and cognitive decline, it is clear that this is not the case. Rather, President Biden enjoys telling grandiose lies that promote himself, repeatedly and shamelessly. Throughout his entire political career, he has engaged in this behavior, but now it has reached a point where even his most loyal supporters cannot defend him. CNN, my former employer, has gone to great lengths to portray Biden as an honest savior who will rescue America from the deceitful Donald Trump. However, even they have given up. CNN’s fact-checker, Daniel Dale, recently criticized Biden for his long history of falsehoods, including his claim of being at Ground Zero the day after 9/11. Dale explicitly accused the President of inventing or embellishing stories about his own past, noting that he had done so three times in a single speech the previous month. Dale provided a list of Biden’s lies, which included false claims about witnessing a bridge collapse in Pittsburgh, visiting a synagogue after a mass shooting, and the timing of his grandfather’s death. While Dale’s critique is notable, it is disappointing that he did not use the word “lie” to describe Biden’s behavior, despite frequently applying it to Donald Trump. Furthermore, by implying that this is a recent habit for Biden with the phrase “at this point,” Dale suggests that it is a new development. In reality, Biden has always engaged in this behavior and has no qualms about repeating a lie for years if it improves his image. For example, he previously claimed to have been arrested in South Africa while trying to see Nelson Mandela, which was proven to be false. Despite admitting during his presidential campaign that he had never been arrested, Biden continued to boast about this fictional arrest and even fabricated a meeting with Mandela. Using the legacy of a great leader like Mandela in such a disingenuous manner to enhance his own image is a testament to Biden’s psychopathic levels of dishonesty. Unfortunately, it seems that his lying is worsening over time. His recent lie about being at Ground Zero the day after 9/11 is particularly insidious, as it occurred during a speech on the anniversary of the terrorist attack. To claim a presence that did not exist nine days after the event is grotesque. Additionally, Biden frequently makes false claims about personal tragedies, such as falsely stating that the other driver involved in the accident that killed his first wife and daughter was intoxicated. He also inaccurately portrays his son Beau as a war hero who died serving his country, when he actually passed away from brain cancer. This pattern of dishonesty extends to policy matters as well, with Biden untruthfully asserting that the Afghanistan withdrawal was a success and that the Southern border is secure. Furthermore, he continues to insist that he never discussed his son Hunter’s corrupt business deals, which is an ongoing and audacious lie. The level of mistrust generated by Biden’s continuous falsehoods has reached a point where it is difficult to believe anything he says. When he is not actively lying, he is making absurd statements like “God save the Queen, man!” months after attending Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Donald Trump, his predecessor, accurately summarized Biden’s behavior by stating, “Look at all the lies he’s told. Everything he says is like a lie. It’s terrible!” Indeed, it is truly astonishing that Biden’s lying is so repulsive that even Trump is outraged.
