Progressive Policies Cause New York to Lose Almost 1% of its Population in 2023

New York state is once again leading the country in driving out citizens – in 2023, nearly 1% of the population, more than 180,000 people, left the state, the largest number compared to any other state. Despite this number being lower than the 2022 figure, which saw more than 244,000 people leaving, New York has been experiencing a continuous loss of residents over the years, and the trend persists even in the COVID-era. The pandemic-related strict policies that caused closures of schools and businesses have been lifted, but the exodus continues.

So what is causing people to leave now?

One major factor is the rampant crime in New York state, despite Governor Hochul’s attempts to downplay the statistics. Cases like that of Monique Fort, who has a history of 14 arrests but was still released by a judge after robbing a little boy and assaulting his mother, highlight the issue. The migrant crisis, with hundreds of thousands of migrants entering the state due to the border situation, is also contributing to the problem, posing financial and social challenges. However, the state and local authorities seem to be neglecting these issues while focusing on seemingly trivial matters like granting time off work to mourn pets or waging a war on cars.

New Yorkers are seeing through the negligence of their elected officials and are responding by leaving the state in large numbers, fed up with the lack of action and contempt shown towards their needs and desires.
