Readers Respond: Hunter Biden Facing Federal Tax Indictment

The Issue: Special counsel David Weiss’ decision to indict Hunter Biden in federal tax case.

The president will not allow his son to risk 17 years of prison (“Wild child,” Dec. 8).

I am sure Hunter Biden expects his father to pardon him of all his crimes. Hopefully, Biden would decide not to seek re-election, knowing full well he cannot win after pardoning Hunter.

Hunter has been charged, but there are still questions left unanswered. Who paid the taxes on the $2 million that Kevin Morris lent Hunter?

That money is either income or a gift, and both require taxation. Biden tells everyone else to be patriotic and pay taxes, but apparently not his family.

I have some serious concerns about the Hunter Biden indictment. I’m not worried about Hunter, that rich, tax-dodging playboy, but special counsel David Weiss and Judge Mark Scarsi. I hope neither of these gentlemen has engaged in any past indiscretions, like inflating an asset’s value to get a loan.

The Post editorial is quite correct when stating that Hunter is finally getting his due (“Finally held to account,” Editorial, Dec. 8).

The previous plea deal for him was a sham and luckily was thrown out by a federal judge.

However, I don’t see any charge against him involving the Foreign Agents Registration Act. What about the similar charges against ex-President Donald Trump’s associates, who did jail time?

Is there really a two-tier system of justice?

Maybe this charge is yet to come from the special counsel, but don’t hold your breath.

Multiple felonies, misdemeanors and tax crimes all add up. Hunter Biden now faces jail time if he is convicted.

Hunter is a cheat, liar and crook, but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t spend a minute behind bars. I’m sure his father will pull some strings so that Hunter does not end up in jail.

The first son’s past behavior was impermissible, and he should be held responsible for his actions. At the very least, he should pay his taxes.

The Issue: The Republican presidential candidates’ failure to measure up against Donald Trump.

Upon watching the recent GOP debate, I realized that the four contestants were all campaigning for 2028 (“The gloves are off,” Dec. 7).

Once former President Donald Trump is over his kangaroo-court battles, he will easily be the nominee.
The other four all did well and made some good points, especially Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. However, like his Florida State Seminoles, DeSantis must realize that now is not his time.

All four candidates would be a better president than the current White House occupant, but four years is not too long to try again with no Trump in the way.

Most importantly, we cannot have another four years of President Biden, or any Democrat. Lest, as Trump puts it, we will lose our country.

This debate was another waste of time.

Chris Christie calling Trump a bully is a joke, for one. It’s so obvious he wants Trump convicted.

Vivek Ramaswamy still is not ready for prime time, but I like when he said that insurance should also cover preventive medicine.

Charmless Nikki Haley would be acceptable as president, and DeSantis is very qualified.

No one made a dent on Trump, though.
