Caroline Hirsch, the creator of Carolines Comedy Club:
“Similar to Streisand, I hail from Brooklyn’s Pulaski Street in Williamsburg. Raised by manufacturing parents, I attended Catholic school, City College, and FIT, all while commuting on the subway and growing up in this city.
“My club has been open for 40 years, starting in ’82 as a small cabaret in Chelsea. It hosted comedy legends like Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Sandra Bernhard, and Bill Maher. We worked closely with an agency that represented other well-known comedians, many of whom had appeared on Johnny Carson and David Letterman. Pee-wee Herman even developed his act here, and Jimmy Fallon performed comedy songs.
“In ’83, Billy Crystal didn’t make the cut for ‘Saturday Night Live’ but was hired the following season after performing at Carolines. Comedians like Paul Reiser, Jim Gaffigan, Lena Dunham, and Judd Apatow also have ties to our club.
“I have maintained a long-standing relationship with Tracy Morgan and Bill Maher, who will be part of our upcoming Beacon Theater Comedy Festival. The festival runs from November 8th to 17th and features over 200 comedians and 300 shows across all five boroughs.
After leaving our iconic Broadway location due to changing times and an unfavorable landlord, Carolines has been replaced by a pingpong establishment.”

“Job” premiered this week at the Helen Hayes Theater, attracting a host of celebrities.
Due to heavy traffic, we arrived late and lost our second-row seats, ending up in the back row of the balcony. Unfortunately, we missed the opening and struggled to follow the play from our distant vantage point. Despite my confusion, I heard that the play was well-received.
