Russell Rickford returns to his old tactics and argues that the departure of the Rutgers president will have no impact.
America’s prestigious universities are allowing open displays of anti-Semitism to continue unchecked. Take for example Russell Rickford, a Cornell professor who openly celebrated Hamas’ violence against innocent civilians.
Recently, Rickford was seen marching in yet another anti-Israel protest, chanting alongside others “Long live the intifada!”
Despite being allowed back to teach at the university, Rickford has continued to show why he is unfit to do so.
The chant “Long live the intifada!” is a call for violence against Jews, which Rickford has already supported. It seems like he will face no consequences, showing that hate is accepted in top universities across the nation.
The resignation of Rutgers’ president Jonathan Holloway, known for his support of Hamas, should not be seen as a victory for change.
Although Holloway is leaving his position, he faces no consequences and will continue with a comfortable job. This is similar to other cases like Claudine Gay at Harvard and Liz Magill at Penn.
The response to public outrage over these cases only result in symbolic changes, showing how deep the issue of bigotry is within these institutions.
