Students at Columbia Law School demand the elimination of finals and the implementation of pass/fail grading: Letters
The Columbia Law Review’s Call for Exam Cancellation and Pass/Fail Option
As a graduate of Columbia Law School, I am disappointed by the demand from members of the Columbia Law Review to cancel final exams (“‘We’re too upset for our exams!’,” May 6).
Back in my day, most of my classmates were dealing with war, without complaints.
Times have certainly changed for the worse.

Columbia’s law students are not “whiny.” As a Columbia Law School graduate, I understand the rationale behind the Law Review’s request for exam cancellation and pass/fail grading, given the circumstances.
It is reasonable to accommodate students who faced challenges during recent protests.

The demand from Columbia Law Review for exam cancellation and pass/fail option reflects entitlement. Students should face consequences for their actions.

Columbia’s consideration of a pass/fail option penalizes hardworking students. Students should face consequences for their actions during protests.
