Sunny Hostin’s Democratic Prescription: Politics Over Policy!
“View” host Sunny Hostin expressed her fury — furious! — that all Democrats did not exit when self-absorbed Rep. Al Green was ejected for shouting ineffectively during Donald Trump’s address to Congress.
Unfortunately, this reaction fits the narrative many on the left are embracing these days (evident in congressional Democrats singing “We Shall Overcome” during the House session as Green faced deserved censure).
“I anticipated that the remainder of his Democratic colleagues would walk out alongside him,” Hostin remarked on Wednesday.
But . . . why? What would that have achieved?
A moment of applause for journalists at The New York Times — and little else.
Hostin defends her stance by arguing that Trump’s presidency is “not normal. It is a five-alarm fire.”
Yet, if that were genuinely the case, the very last thing Democrats should be doing is walking out.
Instead, they ought to be engaging fiercely to thwart Trump’s agenda, making the most of the GOP’s slim House minority, and consistently presenting their case on policy to the American public around the clock.
Grand, emotional spectacles will have absolutely no impact; indeed, public displays of retreat often strengthen the opponents.
Similarly, the bingo-style paddles that various Democrats displayed to (confusingly) critique Trump during his speech were ineffective.
This should be apparent even to someone as dense as Hostin.
The outcomes of November’s elections indicate that Americans are fed up with the political theatrics of the Democrats: They seek action regarding inflation, immigration, and crime — as well as an end to woke social policies.
This was made abundantly clear at the polls, yet nearly all Democratic elected officials refuse to heed this message.
Thus, we see the paddles, Green’s election denial (as he shouted at Trump, falsely, “You don’t have a mandate”), Hostin’s nonsense, Thursday’s sentimental singing, and every other display of futile outrage.
The unfortunate reality?
Democrats are resorting to this theatrical madness because they possess nothing but the same unsuccessful policies — and it’s far easier to engage in dramatics than to undertake any genuine reassessment.
