It is apparent that grieving is no longer Biden’s area of expertise, if it ever was. He showed a lack of empathy when speaking to Gold Star families, just as he displayed cluelessness in his dealings with the Taliban. When discussing the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, Foer once again holds back. He writes, “When it came to foreign policy, Joe Biden possessed a swaggering faith in himself,” but fails to include the word “unwarranted.” Has Biden ever made a correct decision? He was the only person to oppose the raid that killed Osama bin Laden! “I think he has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades,” former Defense Secretary Robert Gates once wrote. Biden calls for regime change in Russia, only to be corrected by his staff, leaving him feeling “babied” and angry. Yet, when he occasionally gets it right, he succumbs to his staff’s influence.
