The blame for the disastrous Afghanistan pullout lies with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

The downfall of Joe Biden’s presidency started in August 2021.

That’s when the president initiated a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, which damaged our national reputation and his own credibility. He never fully recovered.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee has now published a thorough 353-page report detailing the entire sorry episode.

The report’s main conclusion is that this was entirely Joe Biden’s operation from start to finish.

Despite numerous warnings from all sides, he insisted on the withdrawal with a stubbornness that disregarded any opposing advice.

As Lincoln might say, Biden was the architect and the executor of the Afghanistan disaster.

No reasonable person would want to be associated with any of this, yet Vice President Kamala Harris proudly claimed to be the last person in the room at the time.

Although she likely had little influence as a cipher, those who expected more from her were left disappointed.

One of Harris’s aides mentioned her strong support for Biden’s decision, while a top Afghan government negotiator hoped she would have reservations about abandoning Afghan women.

Yet, Harris continues to praise Biden’s decision as “courageous and right,” despite evidence to the contrary.

Mountain of warnings

Nearly every diplomatic and military official warned against the withdrawal. As noted in the report, numerous key figures were against it, including the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State.

At a NATO meeting attended by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, NATO representatives strongly opposed the withdrawal. Blinken conveyed these concerns to Biden, but they were disregarded.

Despite clear warnings of Taliban violations, Biden rejected the notion of conditional withdrawal.

Many anticipated the collapse of the Afghan government with the total withdrawal. The Taliban gained significant ground as US forces decreased, leading to a chaotic evacuation process with tragic consequences.

Lives lost, allies betrayed

In the end, we left behind 1,000 Americans and 90% of eligible Afghans, alongside billions in weapons and millions in currency. The Taliban took control, targeting those who supported the US and creating safe havens for terrorism.

After the fall of Kabul and a disastrous evacuation, it became clear how much was lost due to Biden’s decisions.
