The Decline in Jewish Support for Biden Could Impact Dems’ Chances of Winning the Presidency and Beyond
Joe Biden may have managed to get Jews to shun Democratic candidates, not just due to concerns about his fitness for office, but also because of a significant shift that was already in progress before his debate disaster.
Earlier this year, a Siena poll revealed that Biden was trailing Donald Trump among New York Jews, marking a surprising turnaround for this traditionally Democratic demographic.
Subsequent polls also showed Biden behind his opponent, with a slight improvement in June but still falling short of his previous support from Jewish voters.
This decline in support is notable given that Jews have historically heavily favored Democratic candidates, with Biden himself winning over 68% of Jewish voters in the 2020 election.
Despite potential sampling errors in the polls, the trend in New York’s Jewish population is alarming, with some estimates suggesting that Jewish votes could impact swing-state Pennsylvania in favor of Trump.
The events of October 7th and subsequent revelations regarding left-wing antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment have further contributed to the shift in Jewish voters’ perspectives.
Many Jews now feel less secure in America and have become increasingly aware of the growing antisemitism within the Democratic party and the broader left-wing ideologies that demonize Israel.
These concerns have been exacerbated by instances of violence and discrimination against Jews, as well as perceived indifference or even complicity from Democratic leaders.
Biden’s rhetoric and actions regarding Israel have also fueled apprehension among Jewish voters, leading to a potential reevaluation of their support for him and his party.
The upcoming election will reveal the extent to which Jews are willing to hold Biden and the Democrats accountable for these issues.
