Trump Cancels Security Clearances of ‘Spies Who Lie’: A Positive Step, But Further Action is Needed

President Trump was absolutely justified in revoking the security clearances of the 51 intelligence officials who misrepresented the truth by wrongly branding The Post’s 2020 revelation about Hunter Biden’s laptop as a “Russian disinformation operation.”

These individuals — James Clapper, John Brennan, Leon Panetta, Mike Morell, among others — are clearly untrustworthy when it comes to access to sensitive government information.

Moreover, numerous other key figures involved in this misinformation campaign, particularly Biden Secretary of State Antony Blinken, should also face potential security clearance revocation.

It is important to note that the 51 had zero evidence indicating our report on the laptop just prior to the 2020 election was a product of Russian interference, a fact they nearly admitted in the letter they composed just five days after the publication of the story.

Nonetheless, this letter, which asserted the story bore “the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” granted major news outlets the green light to similarly dismiss it.

Social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook had already suppressed the reporting, and then-candidate Joe Biden referred to the spies’ statement to argue that the report was inaccurate.

Even though the FBI had previously confirmed the laptop’s legitimacy, most news organizations came to acknowledge the truth of our story years later, once Biden was securely in office.

In fact, Biden’s own Justice Department utilized evidence from the laptop in its prosecution against Hunter.

Additionally, the specific details found on the laptop — which illustrate the Biden family profiting from foreign parties by effectively selling access to Biden & Co. — have also been validated.

It’s entirely possible that had more voters been aware of our story, Biden might have lost the 2020 election.

But why limit the scrutiny to the 51? FBI agents who primed social media for a Russian disinformation narrative that mirrored the laptop story, despite knowing the laptop was authentic, also cannot be trusted.

Furthermore, Morell testified that it was Blinken who “triggered” this disinformation scheme within the intelligence community.

Clearly, those given special access to confidential information had no right to engage in partisan politics, regardless of their disdain for the idea of a Trump presidency.

Such individuals should never again be in a position to manipulate information in this way.
