Trump Convicted of Felony in Hush Money Trial: Records
The Issue: The landmark guilty verdict ruled against former President Donald Trump in his hush money trial.
Trump’s guilty verdict has many of his supporters claiming that the trial was “rigged.” (“End to end, the case was rigged!,” Rich Lowry, May 31).
Is there merit to this claim? The prosecution’s decision to charge Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree raised eyebrows — with critics validly pointing out that the charges were based on a technicality.
The guilty verdict therefore represents a travesty of justice, revealing a corrupt system that sacrifices truth and fairness at the altar of political expediency.

Effective criminal prosecutors focus on pursuing crime rather than targeting individuals.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg claims he simply did his job when he led a coordinated and partisan political sham trial against Trump. This, despite the latter leading President Biden in several election polls.
Crime statistics from 2022, where only 4,217 out of 154,617 arrests in New York City resulted in prison sentences, suggest that Bragg is a failure of a DA.

Not only did Lady Justice have both eyes wide open, but she also had her foot firmly planted on the scales against Trump.
I am truly scared by what’s happening to this country. Wake up, America.

I’m saddened by the state of my country.
I’m also deeply disappointed in the city I used to call my home. It seems the patients have been running the asylum for far too long.
Shame on those responsible for allowing this unfortunate reality. I pray for a swift and successful appeal.

If you consider yourself a reasonable person and yet fail to acknowledge the weaponization of the justice system against Trump, it’s because you’re choosing not to see it.

Thankfully, we no longer have to refer to Trump as the “former president.”
Even though it takes twice as many syllables to say, it’s far more appropriate and satisfying to refer to him as the “Twice-Impeached Convicted Felon-For-Life.”

Trump’s conviction might lead President Biden to believe he’ll win big in November.
In reality, however, that belief may falter when millions of voters become enraged over this wrongful guilty verdict. This event could actually prove to be Democrats’ most significant mistake come Election Day.
It would also lead to Attorney General Merrick Garland’s downfall after Trump inevitably wins in November.

The fix was in from the start: From the judge to the prosecutor and then finally to the jury.
Among the prosecution’s witnesses were a convicted liar and a porn star. And with this, the jury reached a guilty verdict on all charges against Trump.

Everyone should tone down the exaggerated rhetoric surrounding Trump’s conviction.
Both sides are using it as a fund-raising tool. In reality, though, an ex-president is unlikely to be incarcerated due to a felony conviction. The worst Trump might face is a fine or, in an extreme case, home confinement.
But prison? Not a chance. This is likely going to be a felony conviction that is treated like a civil judgment.

This disgraceful miscarriage of justice is one more nail in the coffin of American democracy.

Bragg considers it a far more serious criminal offense if an adult film actress is paid to keep quiet than if a police officer is beaten, a pedestrian is attacked or a woman slashed. So, who’s the real criminal here?
