Trump’s Georgia indictment: Letters to the Editor

The Issue: The indictment of Donald Trump over his attempt to overturn the 2020 election result in Georgia.

Like many who are concerned about the rule of law and equal treatment under the law, I was delighted to see former President Donald Trump and 18 others indicted by an Atlanta-area grand jury in the 2020 election-subversion case (“Mafia Don,” Aug. 15).

However there are several matters about which we should be concerned.

First, I wish Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis would not put Trump on trial at the same time as the 18 others. That will not only be logistically difficult and complicated but will create delays, dragging out the legal process to possibly not conclude before the 2024 election.

Second, I worry that thus far there has been no coordination between Willis and special counsel Jack Smith.

There is a huge issue of timing that must be resolved. It is unclear whether the federal or Georgia case will come first and how that might impact the timeline for completing a trial.

So, what’s new? “Mafia Don” Trump has been indicted once again for trying to rip off my vote.

I’m neither a Republican nor Democrat, but I sure as hell don’t want a sneak thief like Trump interfering with my constitutional rights.

We live in a time of great domestic and global crises.

The Hawaii fire caused the death of over 100 Americans. We are inching ever closer to World War III with Russia as we squander billions of dollars for nothing in Ukraine. Inflation caused by spending money that we don’t have is hurting ordinary Americans. And on and on.

Yet desperate Democrats have decided to continue to obsessively focus on trying to prevent Trump from running for president by concocting ridiculous charges out of thin air and violating his constitutional rights to hold an opinion.

When will this expensive circus end? How will all this heal an increasingly polarized and divided America?

In addition to four criminal indictments and 91 total charges, Trump’s failures include: Trump Steaks, the GoTrump travel site, Trump Taj Mahal, the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, Trump Shuttle, Trump Vodka, Trump University and Trump Mortgage.

He has been involved in over 3,500 lawsuits, resulting in millions of dollars in losses.

Is this the type of leadership America needs or wants? How many people would hire a man with this resumé to run their business?

After four indictments by the Democratic cabal of Donald Trump, who leads in all polls for the Republican nomination for president, it seems that Dems are trying everything to stop him from winning.

It appears that many who supported him in the past have fallen in with the Democrats to stop Trump from running.

Why do they want to stop him? Didn’t he give us four good years that made us, and the country, great? Don’t we need him again to put a stop to the crazy left-wing agenda and get rid of Biden? I think we do.

Republicans try so hard to convince voters that they are the true defenders of law and order.

They often speak at length about upholding justice for all, but they quickly turn to completely bizarre conspiracy theories and claims of political persecution when those same laws are applied to those among them who participate in a culture of corruption.

Even more troubling is their undeniable detachment from reality. Republicans must think that the majority of Americans are either gullible or just plain stupid.

These MAGA morons are the worst kind of hypocrites.

All of these Trump indictments, and the lack of interest in the Biden family, is very telling of how our country works now. Go against the Washington swamp, and it will pulverize you.
