Trump’s Victory in Colombia on Deportation Tariff Demonstrates That We Can Curb Illegal Immigration
President Donald Trump is making it clear that he is fully committed to tackling illegal immigration — and even the brash caudillos of South America are taking notice.
Take the swift capitulation from Colombian President Gustavo Petro after he attempted to confront Trump on this contentious issue.
Having initially consented to accept planeloads of repatriated undocumented immigrants, Petro — a former leftist guerrilla — suddenly did a complete turnaround and refused to accept the illegals.
Trump promptly responded by proposing “emergency” tariffs of up to 50% on Colombian products, alongside visa sanctions and intensified inspections for Colombian travelers.
Petro tried to rage against the situation for a while — but eventually relented, even offering his own presidential aircraft for transport.
Despite continuing to rant on X in a fit of impotent fury, “You don’t like our freedom, fine. I do not shake hands with white enslavers.”
So, apparently, repatriating illegal immigrants now makes one an “enslaver.” Petro isn’t just the head of his country; he seems to think he’s also a sophomore at Barnard.
Beyond the absurdity that comes straight out of a comedy sketch, this incident carries a significant lesson.
Long before Joe Biden opened the borders, illegal immigration in the United States was often viewed as an unavoidable reality, akin to seasonal changes or the law of gravity.
Trump is demonstrating that this continuous influx is actually a result of policy decisions — and that it can be curtailed, or even stopped, with a bit of determination and resolve.
He is also reminding the world that the U.S. is undoubtedly a superpower.
While the U.S. operates with benevolence, its leaders will definitely wield their economic and military strength to vigorously advocate for national interests.
This stands in stark contrast to Joe Biden and his former boss, Barack Obama, who perceived America’s role globally as one of perpetual atonement for supposed sins.
Kudos to Trump — the nation requires his continued efforts.
And then just watch how the rest of the world aligns accordingly.
