What makes the idea that married people are happier and kids do better with married parents so contentious?

Marriage is better than remaining unmarried.

Health is improved by marriage.

Married individuals are wealthier.

Marriage leads to greater happiness.

Furthermore, children raised by two married parents have an advantage over those raised by single parents.

Brad Wilcox, a professor and director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, is the author of the book “Get Married.”

The book outlines these benefits and more.

Wilcox shared on Twitter that, “Boys who are raised outside of an intact family are more likely to end up in jail than to graduate from college. By contrast, boys from intact families are about 4x more likely to graduate college than go to jail.”

A chart corresponding with this statement indicates that, by age 28, more boys from blended families, single-parent families, or adopted families end up in jail than they do as college graduates.

Finding indicate that marriage has become a contentious issue.

Melissa Kearney, an economist at the University of Maryland, was cautioned by colleagues not to publish her book, “The Two-Parent Privilege: How Americans Stopped Getting Married and Started Falling Behind.”

Kearney discovered that children raised by a single parent were more likely to live in poverty, even after adjusting for education.

Kearney stated, “even if you compare across moms of the same education group, you see that kids who grow up in a household with two parents have household incomes that are about twice as high.”

Wilcox highlighted that cohabitation does not have the same positive effect as marriage, mainly due to its lack of stability and the cultural benefits it does not offer.

Both Wilcox and Kearney cite extensive research to support their claims.

While there is no evidence that concepts like polyamory would improve people’s lives, there seems to be a widespread push to make them more acceptable.

However, embracing concepts like polyamory seems to go against natural human instincts and is done with little to no research.

It is essential to tell the truth about the evidence presented by Kearney and Wilcox.
