Who Is the LA Fires Equivalent of Rudy Giuliani? It’s Neither Karen Bass nor Gavin Newsom
As the wildfires in LA escalate, a crucial question arises: Where is Rudy Giuliani, the figure associated with the City of Angels?
Following 9/11, Rudy earned the title “America’s Mayor” by spearheading disaster response efforts, tirelessly working day and night to assure the public that New York City would rebound, while doing everything possible to navigate through the aftermath of the most devastating attack on US soil.
The poignant visuals of him at Ground Zero have secured a lasting place in American political iconography for a significant reason.

In stark contrast, LA Mayor Karen Bass disregarded urgent warnings about impending fires to embark on a diplomatic trip to Ghana, remaining there as the fires erupted and her city began to suffer.
After vacantly responding to a reporter’s inquiry about what she would say to the citizens she left behind during the crisis, along with her hollow remarks about unity, she has offered little of substance since returning.
Moreover, her decisions and personnel choices significantly exacerbated the crisis, such as reductions in funding for the LAFD and prioritizing homeless services over fire preparedness.
Regarding former Democratic star Gov. Gavin Newsom, the wildfires presented an opportunity for him to break free from his woke mindset and emerge as the decisive leader all Californians needed.
Instead, Newsom attempted to assert that California lacked empty reservoirs (despite the Santa Ynez reservoir being completely dry) after attempting to shift blame for dry hydrants on “local folks.”
This weekend, he launched a new website addressing alleged misinformation regarding the fires and facilitating charitable contributions—albeit with the donations channeled through the dubious Democratic powerhouse ActBlue, which also takes a cut from the donations.
With thousands of structures destroyed, at least 24 fatalities, an area burning that is twice the size of Manhattan, and the fires still raging, Newsom chose this moment to ring the donation bell.
The ongoing LA fires and the ineffective responses from Newsom and Bass highlight the importance of effective political leadership during crises—it truly is everything.
This is a lesson we take from Rudy’s leadership in New York, which remains significant.
As public outrage mounts among Angelenos and Californians in general, it is evident that the citizenry comprehends the gravity of the situation.
Even as their supposed “leaders” remain seemingly oblivious.
