Asteroid Samples Successfully Delivered to Earth by NASA’s Spacecraft
NASA’s first asteroid samples were successfully retrieved from deep space and landed in the Utah desert on Sunday after a seven-year journey. The Osiris-Rex spacecraft released the sample capsule during a flyby of Earth, and it landed four hours later on a remote area of military land. The orange striped parachute opened higher than expected, but the capsule remained intact, preserving the 4.5 billion-year-old samples. The sealed canister will be flown to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for analysis. The samples will provide valuable insights into the formation of Earth and life.
