Boeing and NASA Set June 5 as Date for Starliner’s First Crewed Flight

Boeing and NASA announced that they are preparing to launch the new Starliner space capsule on June 5, following the scrubbing of its inaugural test flight launch attempt on Saturday.

The Starliner capsule was set for launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Saturday, but an automatic abort command was triggered by a ground system computer, halting the launch sequence.

NASA worked overnight to assess the ground support equipment at the launch pad, identified an issue with a ground power supply, and replaced the faulty chassis containing the ground power unit.

Boeing’s first crewed voyage to the International Space Station (ISS) with two astronauts aboard is a significant milestone as the company competes with SpaceX for NASA contracts.

Once launched, the Starliner is expected to reach the space station after about 24 hours and dock with the orbiting research outpost 250 miles above Earth.
