SpaceX Delays Starship Test Flight Due to Unspecified Ship Problem

WASHINGTON—On Monday, SpaceX canceled its eighth Starship test flight from Texas due to an unspecified issue with the rocket system’s core, which has postponed the company’s attempt to launch mock Starlink satellites into space for at least 24 hours.

This test mission was set to be the first Starship launch since a January flight ended eight minutes in when the Starship, sitting atop a rocket booster, exploded over the Caribbean, showering fiery debris over the Turks and Caicos Islands and prompting a federal investigation.

The postponement, referred to as a “scrub,” occurred during a countdown pause just 40 seconds before liftoff, initiated so SpaceX personnel could examine an issue with the rocket, as noted in the company’s live stream.

SpaceX spokesperson Dan Huot mentioned that the company could aim to launch again at the same time on Tuesday, depending on the resolution of the issue.

“There are too many uncertainties regarding this flight,” SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stated on his social media platform X. “It’s best to destack, inspect both stages, and attempt again in a day or two.”
