Organized crime, activists, and states are anticipated to be the main threats during the July 26-Aug. 11 Olympics and the Aug. 28-Sept. 8 Paralympics.
Paris 2024, in collaboration with the French national agency for information security (ANSSI) and cybersecurity companies Cisco and Eviden, are working to minimize the impact of cyber attacks.
“We can’t prevent all attacks; there will be attacks, but we have to limit their impact on the Olympics,” said Vincent Strubel, the director general of ANSSI.
Strubel expressed confidence that Paris 2024, operating from a cybersecurity operation center at an undisclosed location, will be prepared.
To ensure readiness, Paris 2024 has employed “ethical hackers” to stress test their systems and utilize artificial intelligence for threat assessment.
“AI helps us differentiate between a nuisance and a catastrophe,” stated Franz Regul, managing director for IT at Paris 2024.
“In terms of cybersecurity, four years is like a century,” explained Eric Greffier, head of partnerships at CISCO.
The Games will occur amidst a complex global landscape, including Russia’s conflict in Ukraine and Israel’s conflict with Hamas.
