$1 million worth of cocaine discovered on Florida beach following storm surge | US News

Over $1m (£782k) worth of cocaine was discovered on a Florida Keys beach following Storm Debby.

The US Border Patrol reported that a “good Samaritan” found 32 kg (79 lbs) of the drug in packages and alerted authorities.

The exact location of the packages has not been disclosed by Border Patrol, but photos of the taped-up packages with a red triangle label were shared.

The individual who found the packages, a beachgoer, discovered them wrapped in a bin bag among seaweed, leaves, and other debris.

After making landfall in the US as a Category 1 hurricane, Storm Debby has been downgraded to a tropical storm, expected to bring rain and flooding as it moves north towards Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Drug shipments frequently wash up on southern Florida beaches and surrounding waters as smugglers transport substances from South America to the US.
