10 Injured When Motorcycle Police Officer Collides with Bystanders at California Parade

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.—A police traffic officer on a motorcycle collided with bystanders during a weekend holiday parade in Palm Springs, California, resulting in injuries to ten individuals, according to officials.

Authorities reported that all injured parties were transported to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including the officer, on Saturday night.

Witnesses reported to The Desert Sun that the officer was performing a wheelie when he lost control of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle slid into the crowd, halting the festive event for over an hour.

Some emergency responders who were part of the parade assisted the injured, including ambulance and fire truck crews still decorated with holiday lights.

The incident took place around 6 p.m. as spectators gathered for the 32nd Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade, which typically attracts between 80,000 to 100,000 attendees.

“I feel terrible about the accident and the injuries to the very people we protect,” remarked Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills on Facebook.

Officials stated that the California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident and is seeking videos from any witnesses.
