5.5 Magnitudequake Strikes Close to Carson City, Nevada
A significant earthquake was registered just days following a 7.0 magnitude quake off the coast of California last week.
A 5.5 magnitude earthquake has occurred near Carson City, Nevada.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake hit at 3:08 p.m. PST on December 9, with its epicenter located at a depth of 8.4 kilometers.
The agency assessed that the earthquake caused little to no damage.
The USGS later revised the initial magnitude estimate from 5.8 to 5.5. Additionally, several aftershocks were noted, measuring 3.6, 3.3, and 3.0 in magnitude.
This earthquake took place just days after a more powerful 7.0 magnitude quake occurred off the California coast on December 5, approximately 400 miles away, which was also followed by multiple aftershocks.
