9/11 Survivors Letter Urges Biden to Release Saudi Evidence

In a letter to President Joe Biden, more than 1,800 survivors, first responders, and family members of victims are urging him to “stand up for the victims” and demand that the U.S. government fully release evidence that they say will “further reveal the role Saudi agents played” in the attacks.

Victims and relatives of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and United flight 93 noted they have spent 22 years demanding Saudi Arabia’s accountability.

The letter states the oil kingdom played a critical role in the attacks by providing resources, logistical and financial support and manpower to the al-Qaida terrorist organization. Eleven of the 14 hijackers were Saudi nationals.

Brett Eagleson, a representative of the families and president of 9/11 Justice, said they are at their “wits end.”

“We never would’ve imagined we would be fighting our own government this hard for closure and accountability,” he told Newsmax.

Eagleson said the letter was published to bring attention to the fact that two years after Biden issued an executive order directing agencies to disclose U.S. government document related to the 9/11 attacks, federal agencies like the FBI, DOJ, and CIA are essentially “ignoring” the president and “refusing to comply.”

“We find ourselves again, inexplicably, thwarted by our own government in our quest for transparency about the role the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its officials played in the 9/11 plot,” the letter states.

The 9/11 victims letter comes on in the wake of reports that DOJ is proposing to finalize a plea deal with terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, considered a mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.

If such a deal was consummated, the letter notes it will not only “prevent a public trial,” but will also keep information that “no doubt would shed light on the identity of 9/11 conspirators – secret and hidden not only from the 9/11 Families but from the American public.”

Eagleson said is appears to the families the goal of such a deal would be to bury the “true role of the Saudi government.”

“The reason that is so infuriating is it’s the continuation of our government’s unwillingness to allow information to see the light of day,” he said.

While the signatories thanked Biden for issuing an executive order they also claimed that they have “yet to get the core documents” they have sought.

Some of the unfulfilled document requests include:

The “actual phone records” of Omar al-Bayoumi, the Saudi agent who purportedly housed and assisted hijackers Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi upon their transfers to San Diego.

The analysis reports completed by the FBI that allegedly connect the hijackers, Bayoumi and Los Angeles Saudi official Fahad al-Thumairy, who met with Mihdhar and Hazmi immediately upon their arrival in the United States.

The airline booking information for the flights that Mihdhar and Hazmi took from Bangkok through Hong Kong to Los Angeles.

“We know from what has been publicly disclosed that all of this and more is in the FBI’s possession, but despite our repeated requests and contrary to your Executive Order, the Department of Justice and the FBI continue to withhold it from us.”

The victims’ letter called on Biden to do three things: 1) prioritize the interests of the victims over those of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed or other terrorists; 2) not “bow to the demands of any embarrassed government officials willing to sacrifice transparency in favor of reputation”; and 3) continue to support the victims in their search for “truth and justice.”
