Aimee Betro: American Woman Faces Conspiracy to Murder Charges in Birmingham Shop Owner Case | UK News
A woman from the United States has been charged with conspiracy to murder a shop owner in Birmingham, according to West Midlands Police.
Aimee Betro, who hails from Wisconsin, has been charged in the UK following her extradition from Armenia, where she was taken into custody last summer.
The 45-year-old is accused of being involved in a plot from September 2019 to kill the owner of a clothing store and his family members in the West Midlands, as stated by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Authorities reported that during the incident in South Yardley, a man was threatened with a firearm; however, he managed to escape after the gun malfunctioned.
Betro is also facing charges related to possession of a firearm with the intent to induce fear of violence.
Additionally, she is charged concerning the alleged importation of ammunition into the UK, as part of an investigation by Derbyshire Constabulary.
On Thursday afternoon, Betro was brought into Gatwick Airport by specialized officers from the National Extradition Unit, part of the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Joint International Crime Centre (JICC).
She is set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Ben Samples, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for the CPS in West Midlands, commented: “CPS West Midlands has collaborated closely with West Midlands Police, Derbyshire Police, the Armenian authorities, and our extradition unit to return Ms. Betro to face charges in a UK court for alleged offenses committed here.
“The Crown Prosecution Service emphasizes that the criminal proceedings against Ms. Betro are ongoing and that she is entitled to a fair trial.
“It is crucial that there be no reporting, commentary, or dissemination of information online that could potentially jeopardize these proceedings.”
