Aimee Harris sentenced to jail for theft of Joe Biden’s daughter’s diary and selling it to right-wing group Project Veritas | US News
A mother has been sentenced to one month in jail after she stole the diary of Ashley Biden, daughter of US President Joe Biden, and sold it to a right-wing activist group.
Aimee Harris attempted to sell the diary to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2020, when Mr. Biden was running against Mr. Trump.
In court, Harris tearfully apologized for her actions, acknowledging that she regretted making Ashley Biden’s personal life public. A lawyer for Ashley Biden was present in the courtroom.
In 2020, Harris found the diary and other items belonging to Ashley Biden at a friend’s home in Delray Beach, Florida. Prosecutors revealed that Ashley believed her belongings were safe at that location after staying there in the spring of that year.
Harris pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in August 2022, admitting to receiving $20,000 of the $40,000 paid by Project Veritas for Ashley Biden’s possessions. Project Veritas, known for undercover operations that have exposed various entities, identified itself as a news organization.
Despite Harris claiming to have faced challenges due to domestic abuse and trauma, Judge Laura Taylor Swain sentenced her to one month in prison and three months of home confinement, calling her crimes “despicable.”
Harris was instructed to report to prison in July. Upon exiting the courtroom, she declined to comment.
