Alicia Silverstone confirms she is ‘healthy and safe’ after consuming toxic fruit, according to reports | Entertainment & Arts Updates

Hollywood star Alicia Silverstone wants to assure fans that she is safe and sound after sharing a video of herself seemingly eating a potentially poisonous fruit in England.

The famous US actress, best known for her role as Cher in the 1995 film Clueless, posted the clip on her Instagram account on Monday.

In the video, she takes a bite of a small orange fruit, similar in appearance to a cherry tomato, and then asks her followers to identify it.

Speculation arose on social media that the fruit may be solanum pseudocapsicum, commonly known as the Jerusalem cherry and considered mildly poisonous by the Royal Horticultural Society.

This fruit is deemed “harmful if eaten”.

In the video, the 47-year-old actress is shown standing on the street with the plant visible on the other side of a fence.

She explains in the video: “Okay, I’ve found something that I can’t identify, and I need your help.

“I took a bite because I was on the street and we were debating whether it was a tomato or not.

“It’s definitely not, just look at these leaves.”

She then displays the leaves before asking, “What is this?”.

Silverstone proceeds to bite into the plant again, revealing the interior with larger seeds than those typically found inside a tomato of similar size.

“I don’t think you’re meant to eat this, it’s almost like a pepper, does anyone know what this is? I’m in England,” she said.

Concerned individuals on social media responded, cautioning her against consuming the fruit.

One individual wrote: “It’s poisonous. Do not eat that.”

Another added: “DO NOT EAT wild berries or mushrooms or other ‘weird stuff’. I want you to be safe and healthy!”

A third person commented: “It’s a Jerusalem cherry. Do not consume it!”

In a subsequent post on Tuesday, Silverstone assured followers: “Alive and well! Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow.”

In the Horticultural Trades Association’s 2022 guide to potentially harmful plants, the Jerusalem cherry is listed as harmful if ingested by humans or animals.

Following her role in Clueless, Silverstone appeared in Batman And Robin (1997) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).
